The trip to Fishermen's Inn was nothing short of Amazing. The Lodge is very comfortable and the food was great. It's hard to beat fresh fish caught that day. It was about a 30-40 minute flight in the float plane to the lodge from Sitka and the flight was breath-taking. We were really fortunate to have awesome weather for our entire trip, so we could see the whole rugged landscape flying over Barinof Island. The fishing was unbelievable: it was like the stories I've always heard about fishing in Alaska (I've been to other parts of Alaska but never had fishing like this). One day, we flew about 25 minutes from the lodge to a remote bay and within 45 minutes, we had a dozen fresh Sockeye (our limit). Another day, we flew about 30 minutes to where a little river flowed into a remote bay and did some fly fishing. This little river was absolutely full of Kings, Sockey, Pinks, Chum...if you've never caught a king salmon on a fly rod, you're in for a once-in-a-lifetime! It was really more like catching than fishing and the scenery we were surrounded by was absolutely surreal. We stopped taking pictures at this fishing spot because we agreed that no picture could ever do the landscape justice. Looking back, I wish we would have taken a few shots there but you'll just have to go experience it for yourself. Also, they have a little skiff that you can take out of the harbor (few minutes in the boat and close to shore) to catch Halibut, rock fish and Ling cod all day long. In my opinion, the best parts about this are that, once you're there, there is an amazing diversity of fishing within minutes (halibut, king salmon, sockey, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, fishing from the floats of the plane, etc.) and you will never find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder combat fishing (we tried that several years back, up on the Kenai and it was no fun). I would highly recommend this experience.
